Performing and Creative Arts.

This comprises training workshops in drama and dance. De-masokhi aims to develop this into a Cultural Performing and Creative Arts Academy. We also hope to work alongside education departments with the aim to include some of our activities as part of their curriculum. Further more we hope to achieve the necessary accreditation that would enable young people who go through the program to be nationally recognised.

Cultural Awareness

Through cultural activities, discussions and forums, young people learn about their various cultures and background; giving them a connection to their parental heritage. They learn about other traditions, beliefs and practices (way of life, cuisine, dance, beliefs etc.) of their ancestors. This helps them to recognise, appreciate and accept the differences they find in the people around them, making them more tolerant to their neighbours.

Social and Recreational Activities

Apart from the activities created purposely for De-masokhi, we are inundated with various invites and opportunities for young people to demonstrate their skills and talent in front of a variety of audiences and dignitaries..

Benefits

  • Participating in our dance activities gives the young people a significant opportunity to increase their physical health and mental well being. Our dance programs are energetic, full of exercise which helps keep them fit and active reducing the risk of obesity.
  • Helps keep them exposed, engaged and occupied in a positive and meaningful way.
  • Boost their self esteem and reducing the risk and/or potential of them getting involved in or becoming victims of crime, violence, anti social behaviour, rugs, etc
  • Through our cultural activities, discussions and forums, the young people will learn about their culture giving them a connection to their parental heritage. This helps them to recognise, appreciate and accept the differences they find in the people around them, making them more tolerant to their neighbours.
  • Opportunity for adults to volunteer whilst gaining valuable experience.
  • A useful and significant support to parents.

Future Projects

Indigenous Languages

We plan to run classes in indigenous languages such as, Krio, Spoken in Sierra Leone, Yoruba spoken in Nigeria and Swahili spoken in South Africa

After School and Home Study Club.

This is also on the drawing board at the moment. We believe a successful program would help boost the academic prowess of our young people and give them a better foundation in life. Trained and experienced teachers will be hired to facilitate these lessons.

De-masokhi aims to highlight the exceptional achievements and talents of young people through our certification and award ceremonies. Our aim is to inspire them in their vision, potentials and abilities to succeed in their various aspirations.
